The Red Hat OpenShift Administration III: Scaling Deployments in the Enterprise (DO380) course expands on the required skills to plan, implement, and manage OpenShift® clusters in the enterprise. You learn how to configure and manage OpenShift clusters at scale to address increasing and special demands from applications and to ensure reliability, performance, and availability.

This course is based on Red Hat® OpenShift Container Platform 4.22.

Course Outline

  1. 01

    Authentication and Identity Management

Configure OpenShift clusters to authenticate by using LDAP and OIDC enterprise identity systems and to recognize groups that those systems define.

  2. 02

Backup, Restore, and Migration of Applications with OADP

Back up and restore application settings and data with OpenShift APIs for Data Protection (OADP).

  3. 03

    Pod Scheduling

Configure workloads to run on a dedicated set of cluster nodes and prevent other workloads from using those cluster nodes.

  4. 04

    OpenShift GitOps

Deploy OpenShift GitOps for managing clusters and applications.

  5. 05

    OpenShift Monitoring

Troubleshoot performance and availability issues with applications and clusters.

  6. 06

    OpenShift Logging

Deploy logging for Red Hat OpenShift and query log entries from workloads and cluster nodes.

Prerequisites

  • ›Possess a current Red Hat Certified System Administrator in OpenShift certification, or equivalent experience and skills with managing OpenShift clusters and containerized applications, according to the topics of the DO180 and DO280 courses for version 4.12 and later versions. Earlier 4.x releases of DO180 and DO280 are not sufficient.
  • ›Experience with enterprise authentication, monitoring, and other IT infrastructure systems is helpful but not required.
  • ›Intermediate skills with operating a Bash shell, including command-line text processing, remote system access, and diagnostic skills to read local system log files. Students are encouraged to take the Red Hat System Administration I (RH124) course before enrolling in DO380.

Who should attend

  • ›Platform Engineers, System Administrators, Cloud Administrators, and other infrastructure-related IT roles who are responsible for implementing and managing infrastructure for applications.
  • ›Enterprise Architects, Site Reliability Engineers (SRE), DevOps Engineers, and other application-related IT roles who are responsible for designing infrastructure for applications.

Outcomes

Impact on the organisation

Organizations that run a growing number of Red Hat OpenShift clusters lose time and money when administrators repeat day-2 configuration by hand on every cluster, workloads consume expensive specialized nodes they do not actually need, and when clusters cannot meet enterprise requirements for identity, audit retention, and application recovery. This course prepares IT operations teams to automate cluster configuration by using OpenShift GitOps, and to partition capacity so that critical and specialized workloads get the nodes that they need. Teams also learn to integrate clusters with corporate identity and security information and event management (SIEM) systems, and to recover applications after data loss. These capabilities enable organizations to scale with customer demand while reducing manual rework and shortening recovery time.

Impact on the individual

After completing this course, students can operate production OpenShift clusters at scale by partitioning nodes into pools with the Machine Configuration Operator and special-purpose operators, and schedule only the intended workloads onto those pools, and integrate enterprise LDAP and OpenID Connect (OIDC) identity providers, including direct authentication with an external OIDC provider. Students can also automate cluster configuration and application deployment with OpenShift GitOps, troubleshoot performance and availability with OpenShift monitoring, deploy and query logging with forwarding to external log aggregators and SIEM systems, and configure application-level backups with OpenShift APIs for Data Protection (OADP).
